2X Booster SIP Calculator

2x Booster Calculator

Use this free 2X Booster SIP calculator to see what happens when you raise your SIP while the market is down. Enter your base SIP, the multiplier, the fall that triggers it and the most extra money you can put in, and compare the result with a flat SIP that invests the same total money, in a market that includes falls.

How this 2X Booster SIP calculator works

You invest a base amount every month. In any month when the market is below its highest level so far by at least the percentage you set, the instalment is multiplied, until the limit on extra money is used up. For example, a base SIP of ₹10,000 for 15 years, doubled whenever the market is at least 10% below its peak, with up to ₹3 lakh of extra money, is boosted in 30 months and puts in a total of ₹21 lakh. In a market with 25% falls starting after year 4 and repeating every 6 years, and a normal return of 12%, it ends at about ₹44.7 lakh. The result is an illustration, not a forecast.

The fair comparison

A booster puts in more money than the base SIP, so comparing it with the base SIP alone would flatter it. The calculator also shows a flat SIP that invests the same ₹21 lakh, spread evenly. That ends at about ₹44.1 lakh, so the booster adds about ₹53,000 on top of what the extra money would have earned anyway. Its yearly return is 9.6% against 9.3%, and its average cost of units is about 1.2% lower. Buying more at lower prices helps, but in this example the gain is modest.

When the booster helps, and when it does not

It helps when the market falls and then recovers, and when you really have the extra money available at that time. In a steady market it never triggers. In a market that keeps falling, the extra money buys more units that keep losing value. Try different falls, triggers and limits. Set the size of each fall to 0% to see a steady market, where the booster does nothing.

What this calculator does not include

Taxes and costs are not included. The calculator assumes you can find the extra money at the moment it is needed, and that you notice and act on the trigger every month. The yearly return is worked out from the dated instalments, in the manner of XIRR. Real markets are less regular than the falls shown. This is a way of exploring how a strategy behaves, not a promise that it will do better, and not a recommendation.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल (FAQs)

What is a 2X Booster SIP?

It is a SIP whose instalment is raised, for example doubled, when the market has fallen by a set percentage from its recent peak, so that more units are bought at lower prices.

Where does the extra money come from?

That is for you to decide. It may come from savings set aside for the purpose, or from a bonus or other income. The calculator limits the total extra money, so you can see what a fixed reserve could do.

How is the yearly return worked out?

From the dated instalments, in the manner of XIRR. Because the booster puts in different amounts at different times, a simple comparison of final values would not be fair, so the calculator also shows the yearly return of each route.

Is it better than a normal SIP?

Not always. It depends on whether the market falls and then recovers, and on having the extra money when it is needed. Our SIP calculator shows the plain case, and our Market Crash Simulator shows what a fall does to a SIP.

Is the return shown guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and can be higher or lower than the rates you enter. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully. Learn more on the AMFI investor awareness site.
