SWP Calculator

Use this free SWP calculator to see how long your investment can fund regular monthly withdrawals. Enter your total investment, the monthly amount you want to withdraw, an expected yearly return and the withdrawal period. The calculator shows an illustrative balance, or tells you when the money would run out.
How this SWP calculator works
A Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) takes out a fixed amount from your investment every month while the rest stays invested. The calculator withdraws your monthly amount, lets the remaining balance grow at the return you enter, and repeats this for every month. For example, ₹50 lakh with a ₹30,000 monthly withdrawal at an assumed 8% return would still have about ₹68.5 lakh left after 20 years. The same ₹50 lakh with a ₹50,000 withdrawal would run out in about 13 years and 8 months. The result is an illustration, not a forecast.
What this calculator does not include
The result is before taxes, exit loads and fund expenses. It assumes a steady return and a fixed withdrawal, while real markets rise and fall, and costs usually rise with inflation. A fall in the market early in the withdrawal period can hurt a plan much more than the same fall later. Because of this, treat the result as a starting point and test a lower return as well.
अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले सवाल (FAQs)
Which goals can I use this for?
Any goal with a target amount and a date: a child’s education or marriage, a home, a car, a vacation, or a business. Use one calculation per goal, and add up the monthly amounts to see the full picture.
What is an SWP?
A Systematic Withdrawal Plan lets you take a fixed amount from a mutual fund investment at regular intervals, usually every month. It is often used to create a regular income from savings, for example in retirement.
What is a safe withdrawal amount?
There is no single safe figure, because it depends on returns, inflation and how long the money must last. A lower withdrawal relative to your investment gives the money a better chance of lasting. Try a few amounts in the calculator and see how the end balance changes. We can help you choose a sensible level for your situation.
Is the return shown guaranteed?
The calculator uses the rate you enter and assumes it stays the same, so the result is only as reliable as that rate. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and are not guaranteed. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully. Learn more on the AMFI investor awareness site.
Are withdrawals taxed?
Part of each withdrawal is a return of your own money and part is gain, and the gains may be taxable depending on the type of fund and how long you held it. This calculator does not include tax. Please consult a tax professional for your situation.
