SIP Return Calculator

Use this free SIP return calculator to estimate the yearly return your SIP has earned so far. Enter your monthly SIP, the number of years you have invested, and the current value of your investment. The calculator works backwards to find the yearly return that would produce that value.

How this SIP return calculator works

The calculator assumes you invested the same amount at the start of every month, and finds the yearly return, compounded monthly, at which those instalments would grow to the value you entered. For example, ₹10,000 a month for 10 years (₹12 lakh invested) that is now worth ₹23 lakh works out to about 11.8% a year. The year-by-year table shows how the investment would have grown at that return. The result is an estimate, not an exact measurement.

Why your statement may show a different number

Most fund statements use XIRR, which works from the exact dates and amounts of every instalment. This calculator assumes equal instalments on a regular schedule, so if you skipped months, changed the amount or invested on different dates, the XIRR can differ. Use this calculator for a quick estimate and the XIRR on your statement for the exact figure.

What this calculator does not include

The result is before taxes and exit loads on any redemption. It assumes the SIP amount stayed the same throughout. It describes what your investment has earned in the past, and past returns do not tell you what it will earn in future.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good return for a SIP?

There is no single answer. Returns depend on the type of fund, the period and the market conditions you invested through, and past returns do not guarantee future returns. It is better to compare your return with the fund’s benchmark and with similar funds over the same period. We can help you review your SIPs.

What is XIRR?

XIRR is a return measure that takes into account the exact dates and sizes of each investment and withdrawal. It is the most accurate way to measure the return on a SIP, because instalments go in at different times. Your fund house or account statement usually shows it.

Is the return shown guaranteed?

This calculator only describes the return your investment appears to have earned, based on the numbers you enter. It does not predict the future. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully. Learn more on the AMFI investor awareness site.
